Help with Utility Bills

If you are having problems paying your utility bills it is important for you to talk to the agency you owe money to.  Utility companies like Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will work with you, will let you pay a partial payment and will let you extend your payments, but you have to Talk to them to make arrangements.  Here is a description of a Low Income program that might work for you:

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides eligible low-income households with a cash payment to pay past due energy bills when a disconnect notice has been received.  Eligibility requirements are based on your income and the number of people in your household:

                                                    3                                          $2,969.89

                                                    4                                          $3,535.58

                                                    5                                          $4,101.28

                                                    6                                          $4,666.97

Free weatherization services are available to eligible applicants to improve the energy efficiency of homes.
